Last weekend we went to Palm Sunday services at what is now becoming Kim's and my new church. The pastor is a personal friend and will be marrying us in a very short few weeks. His message was simple, yet complex as it truly pushed each individual to examine what the relationship is with God. One of the core messages was around how much time do we each give to our relationship with Him. Do we just spend the time on Sunday's, etc. or do we give more to this relationship? Personally, I can say that I need to give more and we could all probably say the same. In today's world it is just too easy to get caught up in going and working on all of the other relationships we have in our lives and not paying attention to the one that means the most!
Another core part to the message was on the type of relationship...is there when we need something? Or, is it a 2 way relationship that means something to our lives? There have been many times over the last few years especially where my Mom would give me the advice..."Put it in God's hands"...while that is very true and the best things come out of those reliances on what He will bring in your life, I find myself having to improve on not just calling on Him, but listening to when He is calling on me.
I believe that a true belief is one that will live your life for the betterment of those crossing your paths and bringinig up children to be value to our world. In doing that we hopefully can live up to the expectations God has for us. I also believe that a strong relationship with God is one that is like an old friend...always there, can always have more attention than we give it, but again, always there.
I hope that this week and weekend finds time for each of you that happen to read this to spend time examing your relationship with God. Pastor Ken made me think, maybe he can make you think too...there is no right answer to this...just make sure you have a relationship with Him and give it its due...
Happy Easter 2009!!!!!
